The Cobb Family Cemetery is located in Haywood County, TN on an unmarked gravel lane off Poplar Corner Rd. It is located northeast and about 1/4 mile from Upper Zion Rd.
The land was designated as a cemetery by John Hardy Cobb.
The Hardy Cobb family arrived in Haywood County in April 22, 1834. In 1835, Hardy's seven-year-old daughter died and in 1838, his two-year-old son, Monroe Clinton, died. You can assume with such significant deaths in his family, the creation of a cemetery was very important to Hardy.
It appears the first person burried in the cemetery was his mother-in-law, Zilpha Castellaw who died in 1842.
In April of 1859, John sold a portion of the land surrounding the cemetery but maintained ownership of the cemetery. He created a deed for the 9,328 feet that make up the cemetery. At some point family members added an iron entry and later a cyclone fence. Currently, the cemetery is surrounded by small residential homes, trailers and sheds and is maintained by family members.
The majority of the graves are unmarked but known to be burried in the cemetery are the family members of John Hardy Cobb and his sons Simeon, John Charles Warren, and William Thomas. Confirmed as being burried in the Cobb Family Cemetery are:
